Hi!
I’m so excited to begin working with you on your musical journey!
During your lessons, we can focus on piano, voice, or a combination of the two. I’ve outlined each lesson type below, but my main objective is to meet each student where they are and tailor our time to their specific needs and musical goals.
I also use an online assignment board for each student. On this board, students can find assignments, music to print or purchase, reference materials, goals, games, and warm-ups. We can discuss which type of lesson fits your exact needs during our first session together.
I’m very much looking forward to meeting you!
Best,
Jessica
PIANO:
Piano lessons will typically follow the Faber Piano Adventures method along with supplemental materials chosen by the student and myself. Students will benefit from two views of the piano: one of me at the keyboard and an overhead view of the keys for easier learning. I also use online tools to notate sheet music and explore the keyboard in real-time.
Piano lessons are typically structured as follows:
• Warm-Up
• Previously Assigned Piece
• New Lesson in Method Book
• New Assigned Piece
• Theory
• Next Lesson Expectations
VOICE:
Voice lessons vary greatly based on the age, skill, genre, and goals of the student. We will cover song choice, vocal technique, vocal anatomy, registers, extending range, breath support, and performance techniques specific to your style.
Typically, lessons include vocal warm-ups focusing on areas for improvement, technical work personalized to your voice, and repertoire work where we apply those techniques to a song.
VOICE & PIANO:
These lessons are tailored to your specific goals. Lessons might be split 50/50 between the two instruments, or we can focus on the art of self-accompaniment (singing while playing). Both paths are appropriate for all ages—even the youngest of students! 🙂
